OPINION: ONE-MONTH PALLIATIVE AND FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL: LET THIS GOVERNMENT STOP THE “EYI JE, EYI O JE” SYNDROME AHEAD OF 2027

Nigeria recently celebrated its 66th Independence Anniversary, but I ask: what exactly are we celebrating when millions of Nigerians continue to struggle with poverty, hunger, unemployment, insecurity and the rising cost of living?
In my previous editorial, I declared that it was time for Nigerians to reactivate our national identity if we genuinely desire progress and development.

Today, I am compelled to speak again about what I describe as the “Eyi Je, Eyi O Je” syndrome — the politics of selective benefits, temporary relief and election-season promises.
I recently came across reports concerning a proposed one-month palliative and reduction in fuel prices at NNPC filling stations. If these reports are accurate, the timing raises serious questions about the government's priorities as the 2027 general election approaches.
For more than three years, Nigerians have endured enormous economic hardship following the removal of fuel subsidy. Yet, the administration continues to assure citizens that the country is on the right path towards economic recovery.
My question is simple: If Nigerians have endured hardship for three years in the name of economic reforms, why should temporary relief suddenly become an attractive political option as another election approaches?

Atiku, Subsidy and the Politics of 2027

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been associated with proposals to restore support for domestic fuel production through a different subsidy arrangement.
This has reopened the national conversation about fuel subsidy removal, local refining, economic hardship and the responsibilities of government.
I believe Nigerians deserve a clear explanation of the differences between the previous fuel consumption subsidy and any proposed production subsidy.
The government must also explain how its economic reforms have improved the living conditions of ordinary citizens.
The era of distributing temporary benefits to secure political loyalty should be brought to an end.

Our mumu don do!

Nigerians must learn to vote according to performance, accountability, integrity and credible programmes rather than political inducements.
Mr. President, Where Are the Promised Dividends?

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came into office with promises of renewed hope, economic transformation, improved infrastructure and a better future.
But today, many Nigerians still complain about unstable electricity, expensive transportation, high food prices and the increasing cost of doing business.
During the Independence Day celebration, the administration highlighted initiatives involving Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and alternative transportation.
These initiatives may have potential benefits, but the government must demonstrate their accessibility, affordability and actual impact on ordinary Nigerians.
Where are the buses? How many communities are benefiting? How much have Nigerians saved?
These are legitimate questions that deserve measurable answers.
A government should not merely announce achievements; citizens must experience them.

Stop “Eyi Je, Eyi O Je” Politics

As the 2027 election approaches, political parties and presidential hopefuls are intensifying their activities across the country.

Some are consulting stakeholders, visiting communities and presenting alternative programmes.
The incumbent administration must equally engage Nigerians with evidence of what it has accomplished.
I am tired of the political tradition of offering short-term benefits while avoiding deeper questions about national development.
Nigerians need sustainable electricity, functional healthcare, quality education, employment opportunities, affordable food and security.
We do not need election-season generosity that disappears immediately after voting.
Let every government seeking another mandate enumerate its achievements rather than rely on “Eyi Je, Eyi O Je” to win elections.

My Spiritual Experiences and the Political Climate

As a minister of God, I have previously shared certain dreams and spiritual experiences concerning the political future of President Tinubu.
In one trance, I saw the President emerging from a fruit farm, sweating profusely, with his trousers falling.
In another, I saw him offering a shoe shiner ?10,000 in new notes, but the money was rejected amid shouts of “Barawo!”
I interpreted these experiences as spiritual warnings about possible political rejection and changing public sentiment.

Recent reports of opposition to the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket among some Islamic clerics have reminded me of those earlier experiences.
However, I recognise that dreams and spiritual interpretations are matters of personal faith and cannot replace verified political evidence or the democratic will of Nigerians.
I have also shared a dream involving Atiku Abubakar carrying bread and vegetables, which I interpreted as a symbol of food abundance and possible economic improvement.
Nevertheless, every presidential aspirant must be judged by practical policies, competence, integrity and the capacity to deliver results.

My Position on Presidential Tenure

I remain an advocate of a single four-year presidential term as a possible constitutional reform for Nigeria.
In my opinion, such an arrangement deserves serious national discussion because it could reduce the obsession with re-election and encourage leaders to concentrate on governance.
The present system allows a President to seek a second four-year term, but Nigerians should debate whether a different constitutional arrangement would better serve our democracy.
Leadership should be about service, not perpetual political calculations.

A Word to President Tinubu

Mr. President, I respectfully advise you to prioritise your health, the welfare of Nigerians and the responsibilities of your office.
History will not judge any administration solely by the number of political rallies it organises or the promises it makes.
History will examine how ordinary people lived under that administration.
Were they able to feed their families? Did businesses survive? Was electricity available? Were communities secure? Did young Nigerians find meaningful opportunities?
These are the questions that matter.

Conclusion: Nigerians, Vote Wisely!

As 2027 approaches, my message to Nigerians is straightforward.
Do not sell your future for temporary political benefits.
Do not allow ethnic sentiment, religious differences or short-term inducements to determine the destiny of our nation.
Examine the records of those seeking public office. Study their programmes. Demand accountability and measurable achievements.
Nigeria belongs to all of us, and its future must be greater than the political ambition of any individual.
It is time to stop the “Eyi Je, Eyi O Je” syndrome. It is time for genuine governance, accountability and national renewal.
May Almighty God guide Nigeria towards peace, justice, prosperity and responsible leadership.
