French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed Pope Leo XIV to the Élysée Palace in Paris as the pontiff began his historic four-day apostolic visit to France.
Pope Leo XIV arrived in France on Friday, September 25, and was received at Paris-Orly Airport by President Macron before proceeding to the presidential palace for an official courtesy visit and talks with French authorities.
The visit marks the first official papal trip to France in nearly two decades. During his stay, Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to engage political and religious leaders, address UNESCO, celebrate worship at Notre-Dame Cathedral and meet young people, with discussions expected to focus on peace, human dignity, artificial intelligence, faith and the future of Europe.
At the Élysée Palace, the Pope and Macron also delivered statements as the pontiff began a visit highlighting the need to protect humanity amid rapid technological change and growing global tensions.
