VENO NEWS:Cdr. Ogunyemi, TRACE Boss, Advises Transport Administrators to Join CIOTA for More Knowledge Date: 28-04-24

The Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) Cdr. Abdulfatai Olaseni Ogunyemi, has advised transport administrators, willing to be knowledgeable in the business, to register as full-fledged members of Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIOTA).
Ogunyemi gave this advice at a one-day
seminar/workshop and induction of members with the theme: “Innovation and Sustainability In Multi-Modal Transportation: Navigating Career Paths In A Changing Landscapeâ€, recently held in University of Lagos, asserting that CIOTA is the first ever Chattered Institute of Transport Administration (CIOTA) in Nigeria.
According to him, CIOTA is a chartered body dedicated to improve the knowledge of transport administrators in the practice of efficient transport management.
“I have been advising all my Agency’s personnel to enroll or inducted as members of CIOTA, to broaden and improve their knowledge as transport administrators, of which I can say authoritatively that many of them siting here today are now members.
“Be a strong member of CIOTA. I have been engaging my Agency (TRACE) in capacity building, to improve on transportation profession, both on road, water, air, and rail, for us to function well not only on road but across the transportation system. Time is coming when nobody would become a transport commissioner or minister without being a member of CIOTA.
“So also, I advise every transport administrator to enroll in any approved institution, especially the CIOTA, for them to acquaint more knowledge and understand transportation system,†Cdr Ogunyemi, added.
Guest speaker at the event, a former Corps
Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, praised Cdr Ogunyemi for his effort in ensuring transportation is given its right of place as a profession worthy of emulation.
Oyeyemi noted that the TRACE boss is the only one that has, in actual fact, professionalized transportation in Nigeria, saying "he deserves a resounding kudos as a worthy CIOTA Member".
In his welcome address, the host, Prof Iyiola Oni, acknowledged that CIOTA is engaged in making Nigeria's transportation system very smooth and pleasurable, and said that "University of Lagos is a very special university. You can access it by air, road, and water. We are trying multimodal transport system, to avoid the issue of congestion and let it be a thing of the past".
President CIOTA, Dr Segun Obayendo, represented by Prof. Samuel Ojewunmi, said that transportation plays a critical role of in a nation's economy, adding that transportation starts from home, and that no product reaches its final point of sale without transportation.
“It is the live wire from which every other thing moves. Transport does not rival or compete with any sector, rather it facilitates all sectors", Dr. Obayendo stated.
“Chartered Institute of Transportation (CIOTA) is the first professional body to pioneer transport sector in Nigeria in 1986â€, he said, while congratulating prof Oni for establishing multimodal transportation.
Speaking in the same vein, former President of CIOTA, Mrs Mulikat Fehintola Sanni, described the notion by the general public that those who engage in transportation are motor touts, but a profession that all should be happy to belong.
