VENO NEWS: OPINION: NO SUBSTITUTE FOR PEACE By Sunday Ade Ojo

War and peace are polar opposite. War or violence causes untold deaths, destructions and hardships. It is better to 'jaw-jaw' than to 'war-war' or'conflict-conflict'. Indeed, there is no substitute for peace - a situation where there is no war or violence. The peace-loving citizens of the global community, seriously affected by global warming or climate change, are sick and tired of unending/unnecessary wars.

In recent weeks, the Gaza-Israel war which started on October 7, to be precise, has overshadowed the barbaric/unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine. TWENTY months or ONE year and EIGHT months on, the aggression/conflict rages on with no end in sight. Ukraine continues to be resilient and steadfastly defending every inch of her territory against the Russian invaders/occupiers. Ukraine will prevail! The counter-offensive, started just over a year ago, is progressing slowly but steadily. Victory is definitely certain!

There are no parallels between the Gaza-Israel war and Russia-Ukraine war. The former was provoked while the latter was not. Ukraine is NOT Palestine. In history, there has been no love lost between Israel and Palestine. The State of Israel is surrounded by enemies, propped up by Iran, an arch rival or sworn enemy, who dreams of wiping Israel off the world map. In their dreams... The story of Israel and Palestine is complicated/complex.

As stated earlier, on Saturday, October 7, Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist organisation at the helm of affairs in Gaza Strip (a Palestinian enclave), did launch surprised attacks on Israeli settlements/areas very early in the morning, killing many people and taking scores hostage, almost all of them remain in captivity right now and a couple released on humanitarian grounds as reported. The so-called operation Al Aqsa flood was brutal and deadly. It was a black weekend in Israel as the Jewish State was caught unawares. You can not be wiser than someone trailing you. Lessons learned. Sympathy for Israel!

According to Hamas, the attacks were Al Aqsa Mosque desecration and crimes of occupation. Swiftly, Israel, God's own nation, vowed revenge and declared swords of iron operation on Gaza and says that the country is at war. For close to THREE weeks now, the Gaza Strip is under relentless bombing and in ruins or complete annihilation. Hamas played with fire and must get consumed in it. In a war situation, innocent people - children and women bear the brunt or get caught in the crossfire unfortunately. The numbers of deaths and injuries on both sides are staggering.

Israel is determined to wipe out Hamas, its ally, Hezbollah in Lebanon and other terrorist groups launching made-in-Iran drones/rockets to its territory every now and then. America, the UK and many responsible nations support Israel. Naturally, some countries do support Palestine and strongly criticise Israel's continued bombardment of the Gaza Strip. It is human nature! Upon all the bombardment/destruction, Hamas members are still breathing/surviving. Quite unbelievable/strange! Many are cut-off permanently or arrested. Israel must finish the job! If need be, occupy the Strip which is in the pipeline.

However, Russia, a rogue/terrorist State, that is fighting an unjust war in Ukraine, a neighbouring country, has the guts to draft a resolution at the United Nations (a toothless bulldog) calling for a ceasefire or an end to the Gaza-Israel war. What an irony! Some people are stupidly stupid in this sinful world. There is no terrorism/extremism in Ukraine. The country is democratic and peaceful. Whoever compares Ukraine and Palestine is INSANE. Plain and simple! The Russian Federation too has played with fire and must get consumed by it. Hamas and Russia are birds of the same feather. The child of a snake is a snake.

Finally, the Gaza-Israel war, the Russia-Ukraine war which is dragging on to its second year, and any other war across the globe MUST stop. War is terribly bad! Russia will know no peace until its current mad leadership is eliminated. There is no peace without justice and again, no substitute for peace. Peace to Ukraine, Israel and the entire world. The story continues... Peace as always!
