Following trending stories of Protests in some parts of Lagos state and some other states of the federation against Naira Scarcity, there was change in atmosphere in some parts of Ibadan earlier today, as people trooped out in thier numbers to protest against the Naira Scarcity.
At about 11:45am on Friday morning, numerous young men who are said to be members of Araromi spare parts Market of Agodi Gate, trooped out in thier numbers to block the popular Bus Stop Junction located opposite their market square.
At around 12:00noon, they trooped in their numbers to the State Secretariat to express their displeasure on negative effect of Naira scarcity on thier business.
There was also a massive support of transporters within that axis where everyone was hanging a branch of leaf in front of thier cars, Buses, Tricycles and motorcycles which was a sign of solidarity with the protesters.
Upon thier return from the state Government Secretariat, with a non-smiling face, the young men began to block major roads and thereby destroyed police traffic post and some other public infrastructures.
The scene of the Protest not far from the Headquarters of a state- owned Army/NSCDC joint security task force codenamed OPERATION BURST, forced the Army and NSCDC officers to promptly respond in their numbers to restore normalcy.
In a very diplomatic approach, the men of OPERATION BURST engaged the protesters in a peace talk while the heavy protest continued in presence of the security men, though, while destruction of public infrastructures had stopped.
As the peaceful protest was gathering momentum every minutes, the protesters in expressing thier annoyance blocked major roads within the Agodi Gate - Bus Stop axis.
There was later an attempt to burn down the Agodi Gate division of Wema Bank and the Agodi police Divisional Headquarter which also housed the State Traffic Monitoring Department of the Police. Though, this was heavily resisted with timely arrival of the men of OPERATION BURST at the scene.
About 1:45pm, The men of Amotekun, a Southwest Security Network, heavily armed and fully loaded in three of their patrol vehicles, arrived the scene meeting the men of OPERATION BURST keeping the matter under control with diplomacy.
The arrival of Amotekun men in fierce force to their acclaimed peaceful protest, ignited annoyance by protesters and led them to be throwing stones and some harmful substances towards the men of Amotekun. The men of Amotekun also responded with a sporadic gunshots to disperse the crowd. Arrest was made and one army officer was rumored to have been hit at leg by stray bullet shot fired by the men of Amotekun.
Before the arrival of security rescue, The Agodi Branch of Wema Bank Plc. which was located directly opposite the Agodi Police Divisional Headquarters, alongside the Police Headquarters had been vandalized to a reasonable extent.
Around 2:10pm, an Heavy reinforcement of Army and Mobile police personnel was deployed to the scene where protesters were diplomatically engaged and dispersed, with support from some market elders.
As from about 2:15pm, Normalcy has been restored to the scene with heavy presence of security men monitoring free movement of traffic.
