VENO NEWS: OPINION: Danger Signals From Tinubu’s Public Sleeping Bouts
Date: 26-01-23

Nigerians have been reacting to the story of how Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), slept off at last Friday’s meeting with the National Peace Committee in Abuja.

Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), took to his verified Twitter handle last Friday evening to narrate how Tinubu dozed off throughout the meeting, leaving his national Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to speak on his behalf.

The meeting was chaired by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former military Head of State and Chairman of the Peace Committee.

In the month of September, 2022, it was the same way Tinubu slept off at the palace of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, in Gombe State. The presidential frontrunner of the All Progressive Congress, APC, had gone to attend the wedding ceremony of Misbahu Inuwa Yayah, son of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.

Asiwaju and his entourage, which included party big wigs, had stopped by to pay homage to the Emir. He was reported to have dozed off while Alhaji Ahmed Lawan, Senate President, was holding the microphone and addressing the attendees during the courtesy call.

Not a few people felt disappointed when the video was released. As usual, Tinubu’s henchmen came to his rescue, saying he never dozed off, but was merely meditating on how to solve Nigeria’s multi-faceted, hydra-headed problems.

A FEW DAYS AGO, ANOTHER SLEEPING EPISODE WAS REPORTED. THIS TIME, TINUBU’S SPOKESPERSONS HAVE NOT DENIED THAT HE ACTUALLY SLEPT OFF.

With this recurring matter, can we begin to ask questions?

Why does Jagaban sleep off at public gatherings?

Could it be tiredness or a case of serious neurological disorder?

Could he have been bitten by trypanosomiasis, otherwise known as African Sleeping Mosquito?

In that case, can we conclude he has sleeping sickness and therefore recommend a referral? Could it be fatigue due to excessive stress and sleeplessness?

You don’t envy people like him because, as Presidential Candidate of a ruling party, he has murdered sleep!

One can imagine the amount of hard work and sleeplessness he has put in to get to this level. His meetings with all kinds of groups, all shades of opinion leaders are simply Herculean.

On top of it all is his age, physiological and psychological wellbeing. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot cheat nature. He, definitely, cannot. Let’s advise him to drop the hat before nature compels him to do so. Otherwise, we may be heading for another disaster.

Nigerians have not forgotten the sad story of the dying days of late President Musa Yar’Adua. His health became a huge challenge when surrogates started performing his constitutional duties. But for the quick intervention of the National Assembly and the passage of the “Doctrine of Necessity,” the nation was headed for a disaster of no mean magnitude. Not anymore!

Nigerians don’t need this at this critical point in time. We need a President with total agility and total presence of mind; that can also hit the ground running. Tinubu will do well to excuse Nigerians and save us from any impending catastrophe. A word, they say, is sufficient for the wise.
