VENO NEWS: MICHEAL ALONGE: IKU TON PA OJUGBA ENI... By Kunle Rasheed Date: 11-12-22
I've always wanted to know the essence of life if its not all about coming to this world to die. Life indeed has no meaning and often times I laugh at those 'ton maiye le.'
The sad reality however is whether you are rich and famous or poor and unknown, we'll all be blessed at one point with the award of death. Death visits anyone he desires to visit; be it in the so called advanced world to poor nations, the death bell rings every minute across the globe and nothing, absolutely nothing can be done to change the eternal cycle of life and expiration.
It is only when a known figure or a relation passes that we feign surprise and also pretend to become aware of that unwanted visitor that has always been there wrecking havoc with the ticking of the clock.
Just yesterday, the undesirable element visited Michael Alonge, my junior colleague that we shared a lot together. Michael was one happy go lucky dude who will never allow dull moments around him before his exit from the meaningless world. He loved journalism and I wonder what else would have given him such satisfaction if he was not a journalist. Though, he started as an 'advert' person, but in no time, he got attracted to ways of weaving words together to tell stories and he made good with it.
He jokingly called me his 'boy' because he saw the light earlier in online journalism before most that were his bosses woke up from our slumber to hang on the train before it finally left the terminal.
For many years, I felt guilty I was responsible for sending Michael to jail when his path and that of Nollywood star, Jim Iyke crossed. I had wanted to play the role of a peace maker when I invited both Mike and bad boy Jim to my office.
Unknown to me, Jim came with the police and no matter what I did, he had his way and Michael was whisked away to Zone 2.
That afternoon, I drove behind the police van to Onikan where I met with several top police officers to secure his release without success.
I didnt stop until I made sure I got him out about the third day or so. And as soon as Mike was released to me, another famous actress Ini Edo picked him up from Zone 2 down to SFU Ikoyi.
I almost regretted the peacemaker role I played because I was going from one office to the other and calling those that mattered like 'oga Lakanu' who helped in securing his release.
He was so happy that I stood with him all through that ordeal and that incresed the bond we shared. Although, we've not seen in a while, he called recently just to say hello to his 'boy online' and i never knew he was signalling his exit to me.
Its sad today that Alonge will be referred to in the past.
This should be another wake up call to remind us all that no one is immortal. You are here today, you'll be gone tomorrow.
Just do whatever makes you happy and subconsciously wait for the day you'll be wearing death's unneeded medal.
Now, the question remains: who is next?
This is still Kunle Rasheed reporting live from my inner mind.
