Federal Government Begins Emergency Airlift as More Evacuation Flights Are Expected
The first batch of 258 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks has arrived safely in Lagos.
The returnees landed on Thursday aboard a special evacuation flight operated by Air Peace, coordinated by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Several of the evacuees expressed gratitude to the government and relevant agencies for facilitating their safe return amid growing concerns over the security and welfare of Nigerians residing in South Africa.
Speaking on the development, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye stated that the evacuation exercise demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to protecting Nigerians both at home and abroad.
According to the minister, arrangements are already underway for additional evacuation flights as the government continues efforts to assist citizens affected by the unrest.
