VENO NEWS:Three die, 13 injured as commercial bus somersaults in Ogun Date: 15-08-22

Three persons believed to be returning from the just-concluded convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God lost their lives while 13 others suffered varying degrees of injuries as commercial bus they were travelling lost one of its rear tyres on motion and it somersaulted.
Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that the accident occurred at Onipepeiye area along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the driver of the Mazda bus with the number plate APP 297 YC
speeding and did not yield to passengers caution, before the incident happened at 5.22pm.
Giving details of those in the vehicle, he said,†a total of 16 persons ( 5male adults , 11female adults) were in the vehicle, 3 persons( 2 male adults, 1 female) died, while 13( 3 male adults, 10 female adults) others were injured.
Akinbiyi said those injured were rescued to the State Hospital, Ijaiye and the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, both in Abeokuta, while the corpses were deposited at State Hospital mortuary, Ijaiye.
He said, “According to an eyewitness account, who was also a passenger in the bus before the crash and police investigation, the driver of the bus was on high speed and was cautioned by some of the passengers before one of the rear tyres burst and the bus somersaulted, falling on its side.
“Further investigation confirmed that the bus was coming from Redemption City and passengers were among the congregation who partake in the just-concluded 70th Convention tagged Perfect Jubilee.â€
Apart from TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps, policemen and personnel from the Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Service were at the scene of the accident for joint operations.
While they all commiserated with the families of the deceased, they warned drivers to eschew speeding, used tyres and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before embarking on long distance journey.
