Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, HE Peter Obi, and his vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were reportedly spotted at the Port Harcourt residence of former Rivers State Governor HE Rotimi Amaechi, as family, friends and political associates gathered for the funeral events of his late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.
The gathering is also attracting political attention ahead of the 2027 general elections, with observers watching the calibre of personalities attending the ceremonies.
As Amaechi gives his late mother a befitting farewell, the occasion may also provide another glimpse into his political network, influence and relationships across party lines ahead of 2027.
ARISE TV ENDS LERE OLAYINKA INTERVIEW AFTER CLASH WITH RUFAI OSENI
There was drama on ARISE News’ The Morning Show on Friday when Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, declined to answer a question from journalist Rufai Oseni.
Olayinka had answered questions from the other anchors before Oseni took his turn. Rather than respond directly, Olayinka said he did not want to take questions from Oseni and made remarks questioning the kind of people with whom he was prepared to have a conversation.
The disagreement appeared to have its roots in previous exchanges between both men.
Anchor Ayo Mairo-Ese intervened, reminding Olayinka that he had accepted an invitation to appear before a programme presented by three anchors and was expected to engage with all of them.
The interview was subsequently brought to an end, with the presenter indicating that Olayinka could return when he was prepared to respond to questions from the entire panel.
For a public affairs programme watched by millions, the confrontation has again raised questions about professionalism, temperament and mutual respect between public officials, their spokespersons and journalists.
TEARS AS ACCESS WEEKLY PUBLISHER SOLKEM IS LAID TO REST
The remains of veteran journalist and Access Weekly Magazine Publisher, Olusola Oluseyi Olugbemiro, popularly known as Solkem, have been laid to rest amid tears and tributes from family members, friends, colleagues and associates.
Solkem, who died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, was also associated with the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Awards and was a familiar figure within Nigeria’s media and entertainment circles.
His funeral service and interment were scheduled for Friday, September 4, following a Service of Songs held in Lagos on Thursday.
His death has left another painful vacuum in Nigeria’s media industry.
May his soul rest in peace.
TINUBU IN U.S. COURT BATTLE OVER RELEASE OF HISTORICAL INVESTIGATION RECORDS
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is involved in a legal dispute in the United States over attempts to obtain records held by American law-enforcement agencies concerning historical investigations linked to allegations against him.
The records are being sought through a Freedom of Information Act case filed by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan. Tinubu’s lawyers have asked the U.S. federal court to keep some of the requested FBI, DEA and Department of Justice records withheld or redacted.
The legal move does not, by itself, establish that President Tinubu committed any criminal offence, and the underlying allegations remain distinct from any finding of guilt.
Reacting to the development, Bishop Dr. Sanya Ojo, founder of Veno International Magazine and leader of Veno Prayer Centre a.k.a. Mountain of Covenant, recalled a series of trances he said he had previously documented concerning the President.
According to Bishop Ojo, in one trance he saw President Tinubu emerging from a fruit farm sweating, with his trousers slipping down. He said he personally interprets subsequent political and legal developments as spiritually significant in relation to that vision.
He also recalled another trance in which the President allegedly asked a shoe shiner to clean his shoes. Although the stated charge was ?100, Tinubu offered ?10,000, which the shoe shiner rejected. Bishop Ojo interprets the vision as a symbolic warning of possible political rejection in parts of Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 election.
In another recent trance, Bishop Ojo said he saw President Tinubu inside a large hall filled with APC members, with new chairs stacked nearby. According to him, the President directed that chairs be distributed to governors, with the remaining ones given to party chairmen.
As the President was leaving the hall, Bishop Ojo said he saw him stagger at the entrance and eventually sit on the ground.
The cleric stressed that this was a spiritual revelation and not a statement about the President’s medical condition, and concluded with a call for prayers:
“Let us pray for the President and for Nigeria.”
