As the battle for the 2027 presidency gathers momentum, fuel subsidy has emerged as one of the major dividing lines between the ruling APC and the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC.
ADC presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has maintained that, if elected President in 2027, his administration will restore a targeted petrol subsidy aimed at reducing the economic burden on Nigerians.
His running mate and former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has also explained that the proposal is not about returning Nigeria to the old import-based subsidy regime, but about supporting local refining, reducing fuel costs and improving the purchasing power of Nigerians.
For millions of citizens struggling with transportation, food and other living costs, the question ahead of 2027 is becoming increasingly clear:
