ILARO, Ogun State — The Ilaro community witnessed a large turnout of sympathisers as family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects to veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The burial ceremony took place at Adegoke Pavilion, Ilaro, amid an atmosphere of grief and solemn reflection.
Muslim clerics offered prayers for the deceased as mourners wept. Veteran actor and close associate Yinka Quadri was among those visibly overcome with emotion as he mourned his longtime colleague and friend.
Ogogo's wives and children were also present to bid him farewell. His daughter, Kira, reportedly flew in from Canada to join the family for the burial.
The Olu of Ilaro was represented at the ceremony, with the royal staff of office present as a mark of respect.
Ogogo's death had been announced on Sunday, with his remains arriving in Ilaro in the early hours of Monday ahead of the burial.
The veteran actor had previously faced serious health challenges from which he recovered before the illness that reportedly preceded his death.
His passing has thrown his family, colleagues, fans and the wider entertainment community into mourning.
As the curtain falls on the earthly journey of one of Yoruba cinema's familiar faces, his performances and contribution to the industry will remain part of his legacy.
