VENO TV: SUNDAY TONIC WITH PASTOR PRINCESS VENISA OJO a.k.a. Omo Oba Jesu | Sunday, August 23, 2026 LIVE WITH WISDOM, NOT JUST SELF-CONTROL — PASTOR PRINCESS VENISA OJO SPEAKS ON ALCOHOL
Date: 23-08-26

Pastor Princess Venisa Ojo, popularly known as Omo Oba Jesu, has urged Christians to exercise wisdom when dealing with alcohol, stressing that believers should not merely depend on their ability to control how much they drink.

Speaking in her Sunday Tonic message, Pastor Princess addressed the frequently asked question: “Is drinking alcohol a sin?”
According to her, the Bible does not describe every instance of drinking wine as sinful, but it clearly and repeatedly condemns drunkenness and the loss of self-control associated with excessive drinking.

She cited Ephesians 5:18, which says: “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.”
Pastor Princess explained that the greater concern for a Christian should be what is controlling his or her life.

“It should not only be about saying, ‘I can control myself.’ As a child of God, you must ask yourself whether what you are doing is wise and whether it glorifies God,” she said.
She also referred to Proverbs 20:1, where the Bible describes wine as a mocker and strong drink as raging, warning that whoever is deceived by it is not wise.

According to the cleric, alcohol has destroyed homes, relationships and reputations because what some people initially regarded as occasional drinking eventually developed into a habit they struggled to control.

She noted, however, that Christians discussing the subject must acknowledge other biblical passages. Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana, as recorded in John 2:1–11, while Apostle Paul advised Timothy in 1 Timothy 5:23 to “use a little wine” because of his stomach and frequent ailments.
Pastor Princess said these passages should not be interpreted as permission for drunkenness, pointing to Galatians 5:19–21 and 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, where drunkenness receives serious biblical condemnation.

She further urged Christians to consider the influence their actions could have on other people.

Quoting Romans 14:21, she explained that even where a believer believes something is permissible, love may require abstaining if the action could cause another person to stumble.

“You may believe that you can take alcohol without becoming drunk, but what about the person watching you? What about someone who has struggled to overcome alcohol addiction? Your example matters as a Christian,” she said.

Pastor Princess therefore encouraged believers who have chosen complete abstinence to remain confident in that decision, saying there is nothing wrong with refusing alcohol for the sake of one's spiritual discipline, testimony, family or influence on others.

She reminded Christians of 1 Peter 5:8, which calls believers to be sober and vigilant, adding that Christian living should go beyond asking whether something is technically permitted.
She concluded that rather than asking only, “Is drinking alcohol a sin?”, believers should also ask: “Is it wise? Does it glorify God? Could it control me? Could it cause another person to stumble?”

According to Pastor Princess Venisa Ojo, the safest Christian principle remains simple: “Live with wisdom, not just self-control. Whatever you do, do it to the glory of God.”
