LAGOS — FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and a leading financial inclusion service provider, has announced its sponsorship of the 2026 SPIN Sustainability Conference, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable finance, responsible business practices and stakeholder-driven value creation.
Organised by the Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN), the maiden conference is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, with the theme:

“The Adaptive Enterprise: Sustainability Strategies for Challenging Times.”

The conference is expected to bring together sustainability professionals, business leaders, policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, academics, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for building resilient, adaptive and future-ready organisations amid increasingly complex economic, environmental and social challenges.
FirstBank CEO to Speak
As part of FirstBank’s demonstration of leadership in sustainability and corporate responsibility, Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, will serve as Guest Speaker at the conference.
The keynote address will be delivered by Aminu Umar Sadiq, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.
Other distinguished speakers include Biyi Olagbami, Executive Director, Risk Directorate, FirstBank, and Ibrahim Shelleng, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement.

Commenting on FirstBank’s support for the conference, Alebiosu said sustainability remains central to the bank’s vision of building a resilient institution capable of creating enduring value for stakeholders.

According to him, sustainability underpins long-term economic growth, institutional resilience and shared prosperity, while modern organisations must increasingly create value not only for shareholders but also for society and the environment.
He said FirstBank was proud to support SPIN’s inaugural Sustainability Conference as part of its commitment to advancing responsible business practices and encouraging meaningful dialogue on sustainable development.
Through such collaborations, he added, the bank hopes to contribute towards a future where innovation, inclusion and environmental stewardship drive sustainable progress for businesses, communities and Nigeria.

Also speaking on the conference, President of the Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria, Professor Kenneth Amaeshi, said the inaugural event reflects SPIN’s commitment to advancing sustainability beyond regulatory compliance and positioning it as a core element of organisational leadership.
Participants will engage in discussions covering adaptive leadership, resilient business models, sustainable finance, ESG reporting, climate resilience, innovation, corporate governance and long-term value creation.
The conference follows the successful induction of 79 new sustainability professionals into the Institute in June 2026, further strengthening SPIN’s position as a growing professional community advancing sustainability leadership and practice in Africa.
