The United States has launched a fresh wave of airstrikes against Iranian military targets after President Donald Trump reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, citing continued attacks on commercial shipping and growing security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. The latest strikes reportedly targeted Iranian coastal defence systems and missile sites.
Iran has vowed to retaliate, insisting it will defend what it describes as its strategic interests in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have also threatened to disrupt or halt energy exports through the vital waterway, raising fears of a wider regional conflict and possible disruptions to global oil supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important maritime routes, with a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through it daily. Any prolonged disruption could affect international energy markets and global shipping.
The rapidly escalating confrontation has heightened tensions across the Middle East, with world leaders urging restraint and a return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent a broader regional war.
