VENO TV: NEWS Tragedy in Port Harcourt as Six-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses Four Feared Dead, Many Injured as Gov. Fubara Visits Scene
Date: 25-06-26

By Kayode Adoide

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when a six-storey building under construction collapsed along the Odili Road axis, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured.

Emergency rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report, as officials worked tirelessly to locate and rescue victims believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

Personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Police Force, and other emergency response agencies were immediately deployed to the scene. So far, four bodies have been recovered and confirmed dead, while three injured victims have been rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities fear that more construction workers may still be trapped under the collapsed structure as rescue teams await additional heavy equipment to speed up evacuation efforts.

Preliminary findings by NEMA indicate that the developer allegedly violated the approved building plan. Officials disclosed that approval had been granted for only a three-storey structure, but construction was extended to six storeys, raising concerns over possible structural failure and regulatory breaches.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited the scene of the disaster to assess the situation and sympathize with victims and their families. He assured residents that a thorough investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the collapse and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about compliance with building regulations and the need for stricter monitoring of construction projects across the country.
Rescue efforts continue as emergency officials remain hopeful that more survivors may still be found beneath the debris.
