The Presiding Bishop of Veno Prayer Centre, Bishop Dr. Sanya Ojo SOMH Cares, has called for the immediate release of activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, describing the alleged acts of intimidation and hooliganism against opposition figures as unnecessary and unhealthy for Nigeria's democracy.

Speaking during an interview with VENO TV, Bishop Ojo expressed concern over reports surrounding Sowore's court appearance and subsequent remand, stating that every Nigerian citizen, regardless of political affiliation, deserves fair treatment and respect for their constitutional rights.

According to the cleric, democracy thrives when opposing views are tolerated and citizens are free to express their opinions without fear of intimidation.

"The strength of any democracy lies in its ability to accommodate dissenting voices. Government institutions must operate within the confines of the law and uphold the dignity of every citizen," Bishop Ojo stated.

The cleric further warned that continuous political tension and perceived suppression of opposition voices could create distrust in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bishop Ojo urged the administration to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and democratic principles.

"As a nation, we must be careful not to create an atmosphere where political opponents are seen as enemies. Democracy requires healthy competition, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law.

Any action capable of undermining public confidence in the democratic process should be avoided," he said.

He appealed to relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served transparently and that the rights of all citizens are protected irrespective of political beliefs.

Bishop Ojo concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and prayerful, while urging leaders at all levels to place national unity and democratic stability above partisan interests.
