Teachers and concerned residents in Oyo State have staged a peaceful protest over the continued captivity of students abducted in Esinle community, fifteen days after the unfortunate incident.
The protesters expressed deep concern over the fate of the victims, lamenting that there has been little public information regarding efforts to secure their release. Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, they called on the state government and security agencies to provide updates on the situation and intensify rescue operations.
According to some of the protesters, the welfare and safety of both teachers and students remain a major concern.
"Our teachers and students are suffering, and we deserve to know what is being done. It has been fifteen days since the abduction, and we need a detailed report on efforts to rescue them," one of the protesters said.
Responding to the concerns, an aide to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, assured the public that the government was not folding its arms over the matter.
According to the aide, security efforts are ongoing, stressing that certain details cannot be disclosed publicly in order not to jeopardize rescue operations.
"The government is not resting on this issue. There are certain security matters that cannot be discussed openly because doing so could affect ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of the victims," the aide explained.
The protesters clarified that their action was not directed against the government but rather aimed at drawing attention to the urgent need for stronger measures to ensure the safe return of the abducted teachers and students.
They urged security agencies to intensify efforts and expressed hope that the victims would soon regain their freedom and reunite with their families.
