An auditing firm has raised alarm over an alleged ?13.7 billion annual payroll fraud involving the Osun State Government, following a comprehensive review of workers’ payroll records.
According to the audit report, 5,831 pensioners and workers listed on the payroll were found to be non-existent, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the state’s wage system.
The auditors further alleged that:
Several workers were paid multiple times
One single bank account linked to one BVN allegedly received salaries for up to 982 persons monthly
Physical verification of workers exposed widespread irregularities
Speaking on the matter, Mrs. Otu, a representative of the auditing firm,Tibbot Consulting Limited, alleged that the Osun State Government refused to implement the audit report, claiming the rejection was a move to prevent the exposure of the alleged fraud.
In a strong reaction, counsel to the auditing firm, Barrister Jiti Ogunye, called on anti-graft agencies to step in:
“We are calling on the EFCC and ICPC to investigate these allegations thoroughly, since our clients are being accused. Let the truth be established.”
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has reportedly rejected the payroll audit, insisting on its position amid growing public scrutiny.
