Top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday converged on Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for the official inauguration of the party’s new state secretariat.
The high-profile event attracted the National Chairman of the PDP, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, and several other party leaders and stakeholders from across the country.
The newly inaugurated secretariat, donated by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was formally unveiled amid jubilation by party faithful. Governor
Makinde, while addressing the gathering, declared that internal forces working against the party would be decisively defeated.
“If the enemies are within, they will be defeated,” Makinde stated, stressing the need for unity, discipline, and loyalty within the party structure.
The governor also commended members of the House of Representatives for their active participation in the week-long activities marking Oyo State’s 50th anniversary celebrations, which he said would culminate in a luncheon later in the evening.
Speaking further, Makinde reflected on past challenges faced by the PDP, particularly after the party lost power at the federal level in 2015. He attributed some of the party’s struggles to internal sabotage and indiscipline, which he described as “vagabondage” within the party ranks.
“For over 10 years, the party suffered because of internal indiscipline. Those responsible have been expelled. There is no more vagabond in PDP,” the governor declared.
Makinde added that he had once aligned with some of the erring elements but had since retraced his steps, emphasizing that the PDP would no longer tolerate members who belong to the party in name while working for other political platforms.
He expressed confidence in the judiciary, describing it as “the hope of the common man,” and voiced optimism that justice would prevail in ongoing legal matters involving the party.
“The judiciary will do the needful and give justice to PDP,” he affirmed.
The Oyo State PDP secretariat, now officially named Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha House, was formally handed over to the PDP National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, alongside the relevant property documents, marking a symbolic transfer of ownership to the national leadership.
The event was widely seen as a major boost to the PDP’s organizational strength in Oyo State and a strong signal of consolidation ahead of future political engagements.
