VENO tv: Osun LG Administration Battle: Crisis Looms By Kayode Adoide Date: 30-01-26
Tension is rising in Osun State as the controversy surrounding local government administration and allocation deepens, following a recent statewide broadcast by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Barrister Adegoke Ogunsola, the Osun APC Legal Adviser and current Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, has shed light on the unfolding imbroglio involving APC-led local governments and the state government.
In a recent interview, Ogunsola revealed that his local government had received over ?3 billion in allocations for council administration before the matter became subject of litigation. He further alleged that the Osun State Governor ordered the arrest and detention of UBA bank staff in connection with the opening of a local government account at the bank.
Reacting to the situation, Ogunsola questioned what he described as selective interference by the state government in the affairs of local governments.
“We were elected the same way the governor was elected. Such interference can not be tolerated in Osun State,” he said.
He warned that the ongoing local government allocation dispute could escalate into a serious political crisis.
Investigation reveals that APC-led chairmen are reportedly enjoying the backing of the federal government, a development that is unpalatable to the Accord Party–led administration in the state.
As the controversy continues, stakeholders are now looking to the judiciary to intervene and resolve the matter so that residents can begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy at the grassroots level.
Stay tuned.
