Basirat Damilola Marshal, daughter of Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as K1 De Ultimate), has broken her silence over the aviation controversy involving her father, accusing top regulatory agencies of spreading falsehoods.
Damilola, who currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Tourism to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, took to Instagram on Thursday to counter the claims made by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
“I don’t know why a reputable agency would lie that water is alcohol,” she wrote in a strongly worded post. “I don’t know when K1 became a magician who turns water into alcohol. With the same flask, all of a sudden, everyone is pretending as if they don’t know he carries his water in his flask everywhere.”
Her statement follows days of public uproar after FAAN, through its spokesperson Obiageli Orah, accused the 68-year-old music icon of violating aviation regulations by allegedly bringing alcohol on board a ValueJet Airlines flight (Flight VK 201) bound for Lagos.
The alleged incident, which occurred during boarding, led to a dramatic standoff and triggered nationwide reactions. FAAN claimed Kwam 1's actions disrupted flight operations, sparking a formal response from regulatory authorities.
In swift disciplinary action, the NCAA announced a six-month blacklist against the singer, barring him from boarding any commercial flights within the country during the period.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also weighed in on the matter, describing the situation as “a temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides.” He emphasized that the altercation could have endangered lives and stressed that such conduct would not be tolerated.
“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable, especially onboard a flight. It could have resulted in a tragedy,” the Minister said, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on any breach of aviation safety.
While K1 has yet to issue a personal statement, his daughter’s rebuttal marks the first family response to what has become a major national conversation one that now straddles aviation, celebrity culture, and politics.
K1, a known ally of President Bola Tinubu, remains one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, and the controversy surrounding his conduct continues to generate heated public debate.
