Few days after the death of one of the greatest football players ever, Diego Maradona, another great footballer has died, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Papa Bouba Dioup of Senegal, one of the best ever from Africa died on Sunday, 29 November, 2020 after long illness. He was 42.
Dioup was part of the golden generation of Senegalese football when the Teranga Lions reached the final of the 2002 African Nations Cup in Mali losing to Cameroon in the final via penalty shoot out.
He scored the winning goal as Senegal stunned defending champions, France, 1-0 during the opening match of the World Cup in 2002 jointly hosted by Japan and South Korea.
The Teranga Lions went on to reach the quarter finals becoming then only the second African country to achieve the feat after Cameroon in 1990.
The Teranga Lions then boast of Captain Alliou Cisse, now coach of the present team, Khalilou Fadiga, Salif Dial, Goalkeeper Tony Sylva, Henry Camara and of course el-Hadji Diouf who was the poster boy of the team.
Dioup played for Fulham and West Ham United in the Premiership during his playing days.
